SMALL BOAT BUYING GUIDE

Which type of small boat should you choose?

Which type of small boat should you choose?

A dinghy can work as a compact recreational or support boat, canoes and kayaks are light and easy to transport, rowing boats are suited to relaxed boating without an engine, and pedal boats are mainly used for recreation on lakes and calm waters. Match the boat type to passenger capacity, transport requirements and where you plan to use it.

Small boat dimensions and weight

Length, beam and weight affect stability, passenger capacity, transport and storage. Lighter boats are easier to move, while larger models may provide more room for passengers and equipment.

With an engine or without?

Many small boats are powered by paddles, oars, pedals or the user, but some dinghies can use a small engine. If you plan to use an engine, compare its power with the boat's size and intended use and follow the manufacturer's recommendations.

What to check before buying

Inspect the hull, joints, seats, handles and propulsion components before buying. For a used boat, also confirm its weight, dimensions, maximum passenger capacity and the equipment included with the boat.
